Word Count vs Character Count — Which Do You Need?
When assignments use words, when platforms use characters, and how to check both free in one paste.
Word count answers “how long is this essay?” Character count answers “will this fit in a box with a hard limit?”
Schools and publishers usually specify words. Bios, ads, SMS-style fields, and many social UIs use characters.
One sentence can be few words but many characters if it has long spellings, links, or emoji.
Always read the instruction: “500 words” and “500 characters” are completely different targets.
